Simplifying SD Card Organization with Scanlily

SD Card with faded writing prior to organization

One of my organization struggles has been keeping track of our SD cards. It’s not the biggest struggle – SD cards don’t take up much space and are not central to our everyday life. But it is something I’ve felt guilty about, since it feels like I’m being a slacker about our family’s treasured memories. We have dozens of SD cards that go back nearly two decades. Although I’ve tried over the years to make sure I have backups of them, I’ve never been sure I’ve gotten them all. The wording on the cards themselves has become faded over time. My kids made a bunch of SD cards of their own as shutterbug teens and they’ve never organized theirs either. I’ve tried to mark the ones I’ve downloaded– with a highlighter or other marker– but it’s a huge job and several times I’ve gotten distracted halfway through the project. Whoops!

This time I started my backup efforts more systematically, with the help of Scanlily.  The stickers are conveniently small enough to fit on the cards with room to spare. I was able to create a new category within Scanlily called "SD cards". I used a simple numerical code for each SD card (SD1, SD2, etc). I was quickly able to see why I had so much trouble keeping track of all the SD cards– I had 50 of them! Now I’m able to quickly see what is on each SD card and find both the physical copy and the digital equivalent, whenever necessary. Simplifying our SD Card organization with Scanlily has inspired me to keep organizing more and more!
